OLOL Art Council Complete Umbrella Installation

A beautiful display of umbrellas has appeared in the hallways of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic High School this past week.

Following a request to create a visual representation of the Umbrella Project, students from the Art Council built umbrellas for an installation to be enjoyed by all students and staff.

“The Umbrella Project is a board initiative, each month we are focusing on one ‘umbrella’ section that promotes positive mental health - integrity, self-care, realistic optimism, kindness, gratitude, empathy, cognitive flexibility and authenticity. I brought the idea to the arts council executive committee and they helped to build the umbrellas,” shared Anne-Marie Kane, staff support for the Art Council at OLOL.

Kane came up with the concept and members, Eryn Lacsamana, Katherine Gallego, Sofia Reyes, Bence Fay, Madeliene Dunlop, Kate Dobbie, Nora Ramos and Sam Smith, embraced the ask, bringing her idea to life.

“I feel that artists have a very important job in society; to visually represent how people are feeling and express what they are thinking,” shared Kane. “This was a good project to illustrate how visual imagery can enliven a concept and be a constant visual reminder. It was a great learning tool for students to connect visual ideas with a concept.”

The installation will be up in the hallways at OLOL for the remainder of the school year.
